8.2 Settling the bill

In general, banks are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it is always possible to exchange money in hotels or other tourist shops. Your passport is usually needed to do so. Travelers’ checks can be cashed and bought at major banks, but are usually only accepted by large hotels and tourist shops. You can also withdraw money from the local Bank of China, Merchant Bank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China ATMs, which can be easily found in the major cities.
